Resembling the great Oriental myths and legends of history, Cardcaptors is the epic story of an ordinary young girl who becomes a hero as she struggles to save the world from destructive magical forces. In ancient times, a powerful sorcerer names Clow Reed harnessed the power of magic into separate, distinct entitles - Gold, Wood, Water, Fire, Earth, Clouds, Wind, Rain and Electricity. When the entities became unwieldy and dangerous, he captured their powers and contained then within cards. These Clow Cards were put into the mystical Clow Book and sealed to protect the world. Clow Reed designed the book so it could only be released by someone possessing magical powers. To protect the book's contact, Clow Reed created a protector Keroberos, the guard Beast of the Seal, who rules the Sun. "Kero" embodies the form of a small yellow creature who becomes the Cardcaptor's valued mentor and teacher. And the back of the book, Clow Reed created Yue, who rules the moon. Yue is the judge of those who come into possession of the cards, deciding if they are worthy of such possession. The Clow Book was carefully hidden from prying eyes for thousands of years, only to be discovered by the archaeologist Aiden Avalon, father of the future Cardcaptor Sakura. Possessing no magic himself, Aiden was unable to open the book, and it collected dust on his shelf until it was accidentally opened by his daughter Sakura, releasing the magical powers that had been so carefully contained by Clow Reed into out present world. Our story begins as a fourth grade student named Sakura Kinomoto hears a sound coming from her house's basement, which happens to be her father's large library. She doesn't see anybody around, but does notice a book which is strangely glowing. Sakura opens the book and finds a stack of cards set inside. The top one says "The Windy" and once she reads these words, the entire stack of cards blows away, all over town! A moment later Sakura is greeted by a funny looking creature, very much resembling a stuffed animal. His name is Kero-chan and he tells Sakura that he is the guardian of the cards. The book originally contains some magic cards call "Clow Cards" but had escaped while Kerberos had fallen a sleep. Kerberos is a gaurdian of the Clow Cards. Upon seeing that they are now gone, Kero-chan takes action and insists that Sakura must become a Card Captor whether she likes it or not.And now, it is Sakura's destiny to collect the Clow Cards, harnessing their power and keeping them from causing trouble in the world once more. For she is the Cardcaptor.

He feels that she is a prime candidate because not only was she partly responsible for their escape, but because only those with some amount of magic are able to open the book, and she did. Kero-chan then gives Sakura a small key which, with magic words, can turn into a larger wand. With this wand Sakura will be able to use and contain Clow Cards. Sakura isn't really sure what being a Card Captor is all about, but she soon discovers after waking up in the middle of the night to see a gigantic bird soar across the sky outside of her window. Kero-chan tells her that this is a Clow Card known as "The Fly", and that it has come to life. He pushes Sakura outside with her rollerblades and tells her to contain the card, without even much instruction at all! The bird swoops at Sakura and she quickly dodges in fear of her life. After much poking and prodding from Kero-chan, plus the suggestion of using the only card not swept away, The Windy, Sakura finally works up the courage to grab onto the bird with it's next swoop and climb on top. Sakura then instructs The Windy card to bind the bird so that she may return it to it's card form without any struggling. The plan works and Sakura is glad that her adventure is over, but in truth this is only the beginning and Sakura has many more cards to catch. Some cards are friendly and easy to catch, while others are mean and take extreme efforts.

With every card Sakura gathers, she gains more power which she can put to use when capturing the remaining cards. Sakura only shares her secret with her best friend, Tomoyo, who is thrilled to learn that her favorite person in the world is now a magical girl. She excitedly puts together an interesting collection of costumes for Sakura and always tags along when there's a card to be caught. Tomoyo feels that it is important to keep a record of important events, and Card Capturing is among them, so she carries a video camera with her. Things seem to be going well until a new student from Hong Kong enters Sakura's class. His name is Shaolin and he too, claims to capture Clow Cards. Sakura's confidence shatters as he repeatedly tells her that her powers are inadequate for capturing cards. Once all these cards are collected, Sakura has to face the judge, Yue. He is the examiner to see if Sakura has the strength and power to become the master/mistress of the Clow Cards. If she wins and defeats Yue, then the cards will be hers. If she is defeated by Yue, then the Clow Cards will be returned and she will forget everything about it. At the end, she had defeated Yue with her strong will and became the new master of The Clow Cards. Sakura also made a new wand/magic stick with her own powers. Clows powers are the Sun and Moon, but Sakura's own powers are neither the Sun or Moon. Its the Star power.

The second season, Sakura's chores are to transform all the clow cards to "star cards". Each time she transform a clow card, she get's closer to gaining powers as powerful as CLow Reed. The time being of changing her clow cards, there are three characters that are bad guys but actually good guys. "Eriol" an exchange student from England, always treats Sakura very nice and it makes Li jealous. But little does Sakura know, Eriol is the recarntion of Clow Reed.
